Four Tips to Stay Cool During Your Summer Activities

Four Tips to Stay Cool During Your Summer Activities

Wear White

Store your dark clothes in the closet during the summer.  One of the easiest ways to stay cool during your activities is to choose white activewear. White reflects the sun’s rays on a hot summer day, whereas black absorbs the light. As a kundalini yoga instructor, I always wear white for my practice, as we are advised to do so. Did you know that the spectrum of light energy that makes up the color white contains the energies of all colors? When you wear white, all the colors are available to support and enhance your aura and the eight chakras.

Choose Natural Fibers

If possible, opt for clothing made from natural fibers when playing your summer sports. Natural fibers act as energy conduits. They interact with your surroundings to conduct prana (vital energy) inward and filter out negative energy. Many people choose organic cotton and other natural fibers. These materials are hypoallergenic, breathable, and comfortable.

Keep Three Specific Body Areas Cool

If you are running down a road with drinking fountains, or if you are participating in an energetic yoga class and have a bottle of water on hand, take advantage of the cold water by applying a small amount of it on the insides of your wrists, neck, and ankles. This will work to keep your body cooler.

Rehydration and Electrolytes

As you’re already aware, staying hydrated is the key to staying comfortable during the summer. In addition, keep your electrolytes balanced, especially when you’re sweating heavily. Electrolytes are essential nutrients present in the body (mineral salts circulating in your blood) that enable several important functions for your health, including keeping your digestive system properly balanced.

If you’re looking for a refreshing and rehydrating summer drink, try this recipe:

  • 1 cup of coconut water
  • 1 cup of watermelon, cubed
  • Juice from 1/2 lime
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon magnesium powder to incorporate electrolytes

Mix all ingredients in a blender and enjoy!

Have a happy, sunny summer!
